Apple cider vinegar is like the Swiss army knife of the wellness world.

I never understood its myriad health benefits (let alone allure— have you smelled the stuff?) until I began noticing one of my show cast-mates always swigging from her enormous Braggs bottle before performances. Over the years, apple cider vinegar (aka ACV) has become a staple in my pantry and my secret weapon to combat everything from a common cold to a belly ache. Here are 2 reasons why you’ll want to stock up on this magical natural remedy too.


Apple cider vinegar may help tummy troubles

You’ve probably heard that one of the best ways to feed the good bacteria in your gut is with fermented foods. Since ACV is made from apples (hey, prebiotics!) and is fermented (oh hello, probiotics!), the nourishing antioxidant-rich drink helps restore the flora in your gut microbiome and promote overall digestive well-being. ACV is antimicrobial, which helps fight off infection and kill bad bacteria in the stomach or intestines. Furthermore, acetic acid (the main ingredient in ACV) helps the body produce enough hydrochloric acid and enzymes needed for optimal digestion and nutrient assimilation.
